Workforce Development Activities

 
Walton County School District and Social Circle City Schools 

The Development Authority of Walton County recognizes the workforce challenges in our community and is partnering with industry leaders, our local school systems, Communities in Schools (CIS), the Walton Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations to develop solutions as well as coordinate and deliver workforce development services.

Approved High School Activities for 18-19 School Year:

9/20/18
Career and College Expo at Meridian Park, Loganville
Partners: CIS/Chamber
To expose students to additional local career opportunities by increasing the Athens Technical College programs highlighted and the number of local industry participants.

9/30/18
Students to complete YouScience assessment (all grades or as determined by administrators)
Identify student aptitudes and interests to categorize students for other activities throughout the year; give students a basis for decision-making; support development of student resumes

Georgia Manufacturing Week Targeted Manufacturing Tours
Invite students to visit manufacturing facilities based on YouScience results, Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) pathways and AP classes. October 2 – Leggett & Platt; October 4 – Shire
Partners: Local industry leaders, CIS, Development Authority, Work-based learning coordinators, CTAE teachers, and school counselors

October 30 – November 2
The Choice Bus
Expose students to information needed to make good choices about staying in school and making future plans

Skills Training with CTAE Intro Courses – PART I
Breakout focus – attendance/punctuality and critical thinking/problem solving
All CTAE Intro Courses will meet in assemblies then break-out into classrooms with HR volunteers from local industries to address Course Standards 1.1 through 1.6 (Employability Skills). SCHS will do all high school students (9-12). WGHS will add PE students.
